Baby Shower Gift Ideas

It’s baby shower season! I’m a sucker for giving gifts, eating cake, and playing silly games. Since we’re done having babies I’ve been able to gift some of the kids’ newborn items to friends which is so special. But I also know some of the items that you NEED as a new mom. The cute things are so fun to buy but as an experienced mom, I’ve got to share some of the essentials. As a soon-to-be mum, it can seem the list of essentials you have is either too little or too long. If you’re unsure on whether your list is correct or not, click here to find tips on the items you need for preparation. Additionally, I’ve teamed up with Braun & Vicks to show you these two products by them that I would genuinely recommend along with some other favourites that can help you to save some money.

I couldn’t even count how many times I’ve used the Braun ThermoScan 7 on the kids over the years (let alone in one night when they were newborns haha). This thermometer is great for decoding a fever as it offers Braun’s Age Precision technology – you can select your child’s age, take their temperature and the colour-coded display will provide a reading based on their age. A normal temperature in a four-year old can be a fever in a newborn, so this feature will help ease the minds of anxious new parents. Highly recommend putting a Braun ThermoScan 7 Thermometer on your registry!

The Vicks Cool Mist Humidifier saves us every time the kids (or us) have a cold. It’s really helpful when they are stuffed up and you feel like there is nothing you can do for them, you can at least set this up near their crib to help keep everything flowing when they are sick, and can also run it year-long to help restore moisture to a nursery even when they are in good health. It’s also filter-free, so the parents you gift it to won’t need to purchase replacement filters down the line.

Along with those two products here is a list of items I would say are the best gifts you can give a new mom:

-Wrap and/or sling carrier
-Compact play yard
-Sleeping sac with a zipper
-Reusable Breast Pads
-Car backseat mirror
-All natural baby soaps and lotions
-Baby safe sheepskin
-White noise machine
-Video monitor
-Nasal Aspirator
-Homeopathic colic/teething tablets
-Activity Mat

Pool days necessities

This post is sponsored by Coppertone. All opinions are my own

I’m happy to have teamed up with Coppertone on the release of their 100% zinc-oxide mineral sunscreen with botanical extracts. We obviously love to spend time in the sun and that, especially with kids, requires UVA/UVB protection. Also, as much as I want to deny that my skin will ever age apparently it is inevitable 😉 so finding a good face sunscreen was necessary. I’m really careful about what I put on my and my kids skin so naturally the new formula free of PABA, Parabens, Phthalates, Fragrances, Dyes & Oxybenzone is a good fit for us.

We spent the last week in Arizona playing in the pool with the kids. Poppy is slowly gaining confidence with her swimming and Skip is 100% confident but has no idea how to stay above the surface haha, a lot of chasing required around the water with this guy. At the bottom of the post I’ve listed some favourite products we kept with us all week that I would recommend if you’re spending time at the pool or beach.

Even before Coppertone released this new Pure & Simple line they have been a long time trusted brand in our family. I can remember the light pink bottle with the little girl and the pup on it being applied to me when I was Skip & Poppy’s age. I’m probably not the only one with those memories since this year Coppertone celebrates their 75th anniversary! I’m happy to see they have stayed innovative and aware of health, so we can continue to feel good about using their products.

Sunscreen: We used the Coppertone Pure & Simple SPF 50 Face sunscreen & Body sunscreen for David and I, and the Kids bottle for Poppy & Skip (It is also available in Baby). To be sure this product is suitable for you, always read and follow the label

-Hats: I found these hats on Amazon before our trip, they are essentially a swimmers cap with a brim so that they don’t come off in the water. They have been great!

-Floaties: I like these ring style floaties because they then kids can just bob around in the deep or shallow end without me worrying.

-Swimsuits: I ordered long sleeve swim tops for the kids from Kortni Jeane which was definitely key in keeping them from getting too much sun.

-Blanket: If you’re doing a beach trip I love my Gathre mat for the sand.

Toys: Sand (or pool) toys made from recycled plastic containers.

Nordstrom Spring Sale

I’ve partnered with Nordstrom and ShopStyle to share about the Spring Sale going on, woot woot! I shopped around this morning and there are seriously so many good styles on sale (when I paid the cashier I thought my total must have been wrong for the number of pieces I bought haha). Not to mention it’s such an enjoyable place to shop in store, the customer service is always amazing and everything is so well organized by brand. You can get up to 50% off of top brands right now until April 22. There was a lot of spring denim for $100 and some of the main brands on sale are Madewell, Rag n Bone, BP, Ted Baker, and seriously a lot more.

I’m going to show a couple of items I came home with starting with the Madewell Emmett Wide leg pants. They have been on my list for a while they are such a good staple piece that I feel like you can make look super stylish and dressed up or just wear to the park, basically just a good alternative to my usual high waisted jeans.

I have also had my eye on this bag for a long time, it’s just so cool.

Jamieson Vitamin Flavour Contest

We’re big on vitamin C in this house, in any form that it comes. Our immune systems need all the help they can get this time of year, so bring on the vitamins and antioxidants! I’ve been looking into all sorts of extracts and supplements to help our immune systems this season in hopes that the flu doesn’t make its rounds on all of us! Elderberry extract is certainly something I read up about, which you can find more about here, but there are plenty of things on the market to keep your immune system strong. Jamieson Chewable Vitamin C is always in our vitamin cupboard mostly because it’s the most delicious way to take vitamin C 😉 but it’s also Canada’s #1 trusted vitamin brand with almost 100 years of experience.

Now, this is fun! Jamieson is giving consumers the opportunity to help create a new chewable vitamin C flavour. And watch out folks, cause I have some good ideas! The contest is currently running at this link. If bragging rights that you were the creative mastermind behind a vitamin flavour wasn’t already enough the top 3 flavours will be chosen and those participants will each win $1,000. (Heyyoo!!!), The winner will receive $5,000 (Heyyoooo X5)!

My ideas so far are Pina Colada, Elderberry, Lavender and Matcha. Not bad, I know! So, bring it on, and you better not steal mine 😉

Starting September 2019 you can vote for your favourite flavour and the flavour with the most votes will be crowned the next vitamin C chewable flavour to launch!
